According to Anne Snowdon, chief scientific research officer at HIMSS, hospitals wishing to implement AI require sufficient IT infrastructure, strong leadership and governance frameworks, and talented staff who can use the tools safely.

Data modernization, transformation, interoperability, the use of the digital health indicator, the importance of collaboration and policy, were on the minds of health leaders at the HIMSS25 Public Health Data Modernization Forum.

At the HIMSS25 AI in Healthcare Forum, industry thought leaders gathered to discuss how AI will be transformative and disruptive for the future of healthcare.  

Shawn Weldin, IT director of Sabetha Community Hospital and Changemaker Award recipient, recommends that executives at rural hospitals work with vendors to implement new tools at a scale suitable for their size.

At HIMSS25, Tamer Baker, healthcare CTO for Zscaler, and Nate Couture, CISO for the University of Vermont Health Network, will discuss zero trust's strategy and how critical it is to facilitate breach recovery and prevention after an attack.  

The cost burden is lowered when rural hospitals share their EHR because the host can bear the cost of things such as  infrastructure, security and staffing, says David Winn, vice president for Parkview Community Connect at Parkview Health.

Dr. Bonita Coe, founder and CEO of Best Health for Your Life Consulting, previews her HIMSS25 talk at the Health Equity Forum on using technology, such as telemedicine and digital monitoring, to enhance patient care and prioritize health.

Working with world-class partners, ensuring AI is safe for patients, educating clinicians, integrating and scaling AI rapidly, is what it takes for a provider to integrate an AI platform, says Dr. Barry Stein, Hartford HealthCare's CCIO.  

At HIMSS25, Matt Cybulsky, healthcare AI and product innovation lead at LBMC, says he hopes to spark interest, curiosity and realistic expectations on technology use in healthcare and AI’s effectiveness in real-world clinical settings.
