With the understanding that the best doctor is the one who's up to date on all the latest news, Physicians Interactive is adding personalized content capabilities to its Omnio iPad app.

The Marlborough, Mass.-based developer of online mobile and clinical resources for physicians has announced a partnership with docwise to access the company's reader platform through the Omnio app, giving physicians instant access to medical journals, news and other topics of interest and allowing them to set automatic updates and share articles with colleagues.

"With the integration of the docwise platform into Omnio, medical professionals will have everything they need to stay up to date in the medical community," said Gautam Gulati, MD, PI's chief medical officer and senior vice president of product management, in a press release. "They will no longer have to go to multiple sources to get the information they need that is specific to their specialty. They can get all the journal information they need with full text access through their organization's enterprise subscriptions, as well as being able to curate and highlight any other news sites or specialty associations that may interest them."

PI unveiled the Omnio app in March, calling it the "modern-day digital black bag" for today's healthcare provider.  Donato Tramuto, PI's CEO and vice chairman, pointed out at that time that more than 31 million new consumers will soon be joining the nation's healthcare system, forcing physicians to take on a heavier workload – yet only 5 percent of today's medical professionals are satisfied with apps now on the market.

"Omnio changes everything, allowing clinicians one-tap access to their favorite mobile tools and serving all the diverse roles clinicians now play," Tramuto said in March. "We chose the name Omnio because this app will become the omnipresent clinical assistant for the emerging healthcare workflow."

"Omnio's synergy with the docwise platform simplifies clinicians' workflow even further, enabling them to have one-tap access to the most relevant, aggregated content for their patients' specialized needs, both at the point of care and during their leisure time," he said in this latest press release.

The docwise platform enables physicians to create custom topics and receive full-text access to new content as it's posted. The platform will also incorporate Omnio Pages and MedAlert for braking news and updates. In addition, Omnio users can earn CME 2 credits when using the app.

"Our vision is to provide physicians with the most elegant reading experience and we are thrilled to broaden access to this via Physician Interactive's Omnio app," said Rosina Samadani, PhD, president of New York-based docwise, in the press release. "We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Physicians Interactive as we combine the strength of our design-centric medical content platform together with Physicians Interactive's innovative app. This will substantially benefit busy physicians who rely on customized information right at the point of care in a timely manner."
