With the mHIMSS Roadmap celebrating its first anniversary, members of the mHIMSS chapter will be looking back and forwards at the HIMSS Media mHealth Summit.

While they're marking one year of helping HIMSS members and others plot a comprehensive mHealth strategy, David Collins, mHIMSS' senior director, said the chapter is ready to update that roadmap. To that end, they'll be hosting a number of special session at the mHIMSS Pavilion in the Exhibit Hall and hosting several focus groups on the last day of the summit.

The action kicks off on Monday, December 8, with a press briefing at 1 p.m., during which Collins will provide an overview of Version 2 of the mHIMSS Roadmap – an "Apps Supplement."

Meanwhile, the mHIMSS Pavilion in the Exhibit Hall will open just after noon Monday with a presentation by the App Developers' Alliance. The alliance is hosting a hackathon on December 7 and 8 that focuses on diabetes apps, and will announce the winners at the pavilion. "Peeling Apart the Best in Diabetes App Solutions" is scheduled to take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday.

Other Monday events at the mHIMSS Pavilion:

Also on Tuesday, mHIMSS will host a special session "mHIMSS Roadmap: An International Strategic Approach to mHealth." Scheduled to take place from 5-6 p.m., the session will feature Collins, Scher, HIMSS vice president of Healthcare Information Systems Pat Wise and Rainer Herzog, managing director of HIMSS Europe.

"We will discuss the expansion of mHIMSS efforts in the international space, provide an overview of the mHIMSS Roadmap, discuss differences in mHealth in the U.S. vs. Europe and ask for participation in mHIMSS International Roadmap Task Force," Collins said.

Collins said mHIMSS will also have a presence in the Technology Showcase in the Exhibit Hall.

"The Technology Showcase will feature Continua and the Association for Competitive Technology (ACT) demonstrating homecare devices that collect data (and) IHE standards that enable interoperability," he said. They will also describe "how clinical stakeholders access and use data in a mobile-friendly format."

On Wednesday, mHIMSS will host a series of focus groups on different aspects of the mHIMSS Roadmap. The half-hour sessions, taking place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will focus on privacy and security, standards and interoperability, policy, ROI/payment, new care models, technology and international mHealth.

According to Collins, HIMSS will also be distributing the HIMSS Analytics 3rd Annual Mobile Survey during the mHealth Summit. Results of the survey will be released on February 25 at the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Fla.
